Nearshore marine borehole drilling with Sonic technology

Located off the port of St. Helier Jersey, our client Fugro conducts 7 marine boreholes for geotechnical sampling with our CRS 170 DUO. The sonic rig is positioned on an Aran 250 Jack-up barge where it can access the drill locations on the water despite the large tides and unpredictable marine conditions.

Drilling in geo-marine environments with the CRS 170 DUO

The CRS 170 DUO is equipped with a CompactRotoSonic drill head as well as a four-speed rotation head that can easily switch by a shifting trolley board. Because of this feature, our clients are able to drill through a combination of hard rock-granites and sand-gravel overburden which are common in geo-marine environments. As a result, complete high-quality samples are produced with efficiency and speed.

The right technology for the job

The rig also features

  • A remote-controlled ManipAll 250 for loading casing rods with ease
  • A safety cage for a secured and safe working environment
  • Triple floatable clamps that allow an easy breaking of rods to ensure a smooth continuous drilling operation
