In India, the water reservoirs and dams are vital to the cities and agricultural regions. They provide water for the irrigation of agricultural lands (food production), for electricity generation (water and energy) and protection against flooding (security). However, many dams are becoming obsolete. In addition, they are also confronted with other problems due to changes in land use, socio-economic developments and climate change.
Project DAMSAFE was set up to improve water management and increase the safety of India's dams. The project focuses on adjustment, maintenance, repair and renewal of the dams. The project is sponsored by the Dutch program 'Partners voor Water'. Next to Royal Eijkelkamp, it consists of the Dutch research institutes Deltares and SkyGeo, and the Spanish company iPresas.
The project uses innovative tools to predict the inflow and outflow of the reservoirs. In this way, several important actions can be performed:
Some of the innovative tools and techniques come from Royal Eijkelkamp. These techniques have been tested and proven. They provide high-quality and reliable information to the end user. Within the DAMSAFE project, Royal Eijkelkamp is responsible for the online monitoring system of the weather, the dam, the water levels and the quality of the water in the reservoir.
